You're Invited to a Special Event Celebrating Black Barbie!
Join us for an inspiring and thought-provoking day at CSUF hosted by the Department of Child and Adolescent Studies and the College of Health and Human Development, in partnership with the Institute of Black Intellectual Innovation. We're thrilled to present a two-part event celebrating the themes from Black Barbie, a documentary recently nominated for an NAACP Image Award. Don't miss the opportunity to join this celebration of Black Barbie’s lasting legacy on children and families.

AFTERNOON: Black Barbie Research and Resource Day
🕐 Time: 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
📍 Location: TSU Pavilion A, CSUF Campus
Featuring
-Poster presentations from CSUF student and faculty scholars on the empowerment of Black children, adults, families, and communities;
-Keynote from Dr. L. Monique Ward, distinguished researcher of children’s and adolescents’ media use, gender, and body image;
-Reception with refreshments
-CSUF resources to support Black students, faculty, and staff


EVENING: Black Barbie Film Screening & Expert Panel Discussion
🕐 Time: 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
📍 Location: TSU Pavilion B/C, CSUF Campus
Featuring
-Film screening of the 90-minute Black Barbie
-Expert panel discussion of race, representation, development, and identity by esteemed scholars, including contributors from the film.
-Refreshments and photo opportunities.
Older children and teens are welcome, but note that the documentary is rated TV-MA for mature themes (e.g., racism, police brutality).
