You are being asked to take part in a research study carried out by Angel Granados, under the guidance of Dr. Elizabeth Pillsworth. This consent form explains the research study and your part in it if you decide to join the study. Please read the form carefully, taking as much time as you need. You can decide at any time not to participate in the study. If you do participate, you can change your mind later or quit at any time. There will be no penalty or loss of services or benefits if you decide to not take part in the study or quit later.
What is this study about?
This research study is being conducted to understand the factors affecting people's perceptions and decisions about families and children. All adults age 18 or older qualify to take this survey and are encouraged to participate.
What will I be asked to do if I am in this study? ***
If you take part in the study, you will be asked to respond to a survey with questions related to:
Gender
Contraceptives
Children and Offspring
Sexual History and Behavior
Relationship Status, Attitudes, and Behavior
Mate Preferences
Perceptions of Yourself
Family Composition and History
Your Demographic Information
You may, without penalty, choose to click the button that says “I do not wish to participate in this survey,” which will exit you from the survey. You may also choose to skip any questions or exit the survey at any time without penalty.
Are there any benefits to me if I am in this study?
There is no direct benefit to you from being in this study.
Your participation in this study will help researchers better understand the factors related to reproductive decision-making in the United States.
Are there any risks to me if I am in this study?
This protocol contains minimal risk. Because the survey asks about very personal and intimate behaviors and feelings, it is possible that you may be made uncomfortable by some of the questions, or that you may experience a negative response to your own assessments of your relationships or experiences. To minimize these risks, you may, without penalty, exit the survey at any time or skip any questions that you feel uncomfortable answering.
Will my information be kept anonymous or confidential?
The data for this study are being collected anonymously. Neither the researcher(s) nor anyone else will be able to link data to you. The data for this study will be kept anonymous to the extent allowed by law. No published results will identify you, and your name will not be associated with the findings.
The results of this study will be published or presented at professional meetings, but the identities of all research participants will remain anonymous.
All digital data once gathered will remain on a password-protected computer to which only the principal investigators will have access. The results of this study will be kept indefinitely and may be used for presentation at professional conferences or for publication in peer-edited journals, such as Evolution and Human Behavior; however, the identities of all research participants will remain anonymous. Data will be kept indefinitely.
Are there any costs or payments for being in this study?
There will be no costs to you for taking part in this study.
You will not receive money or any other form of compensation for taking part in this study.
