This consent form explains the research study and your part in it should you decide to join. Please read the form carefully. You can decide at any time not to participate in the study. If you do participate, you can change your mind later or quit at any time. This study is anonymous, and the responses cannot be linked to you in any way. There will be no penalty or loss of services or benefits if you decide not to take part in the study or quit later.
What is this study about?
This research study is being conducted to understand the dynamics of sugar relationships, dating, and sexual behavior. Because questions in this survey pertain to mature topics, only adults age 18 or older qualify to take this survey and are encouraged to participate.
What will I be asked to do if I am in this study?
If you take part in the study, you will first be asked to complete a series of questions regarding your demographics, personal perceptions, and sexual behavior. You will then be asked about the benefits you may gain from sugar dating and your preferences. If you do not have experience with sugar relationships, you will be asked to answer alternative questions about your dating preferences. At any point, you may choose the option “I do not wish to participate in this survey,” which will exit you from the survey. You may also choose to skip any questions or exit the survey at any time without penalty.
Are there any benefits to me if I am in this study?
There is no direct benefit to you from being in this study. Your participation in this study will help researchers better understand the internal dynamics of sugar relationships.
Are there any risks to me if I am in this study?
The survey has been designed to eliminate any foreseeable risks. The data collected are being collected completely anonymously and will not ask for any identifying information. Because the survey asks about intimate and sexual behavior, it is possible that you may not wish to answer some of the questions. At any time, you may exit the survey or skip any questions that you do not wish to answer without penalty.
Will my information be kept anonymous or confidential?
Yes. The data for this study are being collected anonymously. Neither the researcher(s) nor anyone else will be able to link data to you. The data for this study will be kept anonymous to the extent allowed by law. No published results will identify you, and your name will not be associated with the findings. The results of this study will be published or presented at professional meetings, but the identities of all research participants will remain anonymous. All digital data once gathered will remain on a password-protected computer to which only the principal investigators will have access. The results of this study will be kept indefinitely and may be used for presentation at professional conferences or for publication in peer-edited journals, such as Evolution and Human Behavior; however, the identities of all research participants will remain anonymous. Data will be kept indefinitely.
Are there any costs or payments for being in this study?
No. There will be no costs to you for taking part in this study. You will not receive money or any other form of compensation for taking part in this study.
