URE Program Description

The Undergraduate Research Experience (URE) provides students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) from Citrus College, Cypress College, Fullerton College, Golden West College, Mt. San Antonio College, Orang e Coast College, Santa Ana College, and Santiago Canyon College an opportunity to conduct research at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) in an 8-week summer program. URE is exclusively for current community college students from these partner institutions. Hispanic/Latinx students are strongly encouraged to apply!

The program will run from June 14 to August 6, 2021.

Selected students will gain first-hand experience in scientific investigation in a dynamic, collaborative research environment. CSUF faculty mentor and support students throughout the experience.

This opportunity requires a full-time commitment of at least 40 hours per week, which may require work on the weekends. Do not apply if you are planning to work, take summer classes, travel, or be out of town during the duration of the program. Students receive a $5,000 stipend for their research and work throughout the summer. Stipend limited to U.S. citizens, nationals, and permanent residents.

Students not successful in 2021 are highly encouraged to continue engaging with Project RAISE.

URE Eligibility Requirements

Be in good academic standing and enrolled at a Project RAISE partner community college through spring 2021
Have passed two community college science, technology, or engineering courses by June 13, 2021
Have passed one community college math course and be eligible for Calculus 1 or above by June 13, 2021 - check www.fullerton.edu/projectraise for your college's math requirement
Pursuing your first bachelor's degree
Commit at least 40 hours per week during URE21

Finalists invited to interview: Friday, March 26, 2021
Selected students interview at CSUF: March 29-April 9, 2021
URE21 final decisions sent: Thursday, April 22, 2021
URE21 orientation & kick-off: Monday, June 14, 2021
