Investigating Sexual Satisfaction Predictors: Family Communication, Personal Traits, and Relationship State

Dear Participant: You are being asked to take part in a research study carried out by Dr. Tara Suwinyattichaiporn, an associate professor in the Human Communication Studies Department at California State University, Fullerton. This consent form explains the research study and your part in it if you decide to join the study. Please read the form carefully, taking as much time as you need. Email the researcher to explain anything you don’t understand. You can decide not to join the study. If you join the study, you can change your mind later or quit at any time. You have the option to skip any questions that make you feel uncomfortable. There will be no penalty or loss of services or benefits if you decide to not take part in the study. 

This research study is being conducted to understand the connection between family sex communication and sexual communication, sexual behaviors, and other psychological outcomes. You are being asked to take part because you are over 18 years old and are currently or have been in a romantic relationship. I am inviting your participation, which will involve taking a survey questionnaire. This questionnaire should take you approximately 20 minutes to complete. 

The questionnaire will ask you to answer series of questions regarding your sexual communication, family sex communication discomfort, sexual satisfaction, relationship satisfaction, and some general demographics information (e.g. gender and age). Although there is no direct benefit to you, there may be some benefits of your participation. Mainly, this research study will help expand the body of research in this area. The potential risks from taking part in this study include risks associated with sensitive questions. You may experience distress or discomfort answering questions about your past or current relationships and sexual behaviors. You will not be asked to write your name or any other personal identifying information on this questionnaire. The data for this study are being collected anonymously. Neither the researcher(s) nor anyone else will be able to link data to you. The results of this study may be published or presented at professional meetings, but the identities of all research participants will remain anonymous. The data for this study will be kept for 5 years in the researcher’s password-locked computer. Your participation in this study is voluntary. You can skip questions if you wish. If you choose not to participate or to withdraw from the study at any time, there will be no penalty.
